Gone are the days of long check out lines. This week Amazon opened a cashier-free store at 113 S. Franklin St near the Willis Tower in Chicago's loop. No need to bring your wallet! Shoppers can simply scan their phones at a turnstile then grab their food and walk out. No need for a credit card or cash--it's that simple. The transaction will be charged to their Amazon account.

Options include prepared salads, wraps, snacks, drinks, other lunch options, and meal kits that can be taken home for dinner. The 2,000 square foot store resembles a gourmet grocery store and allows shoppers to run in, get what they need, and make it to their afternoon meeting on time. The technology uses overhead cameras and scales on shelves to apply correct products to each customer's account.

The store may not have cashiers but still has staff on site to restock shelves and assist customers as needed. While it isn't certain how many more may open around Chicago it's sure to be a hit for those short on time. If you are in the Loop, I recommend checking it out! The store is open from 7am-8pm Monday through Friday. Don't forget your phone!
